Over my years as a specialist in Anxiety, Panic Disorder, and Trauma, I have found that the Taoist arts of Chi Gung, Tai Chi, Taoist Breathing, TAO yoga, and Taoist Meditation have become a central healing approach to a number of my clients. These systems encourage a gentle, clear awareness and relaxation of the nervous system that go deeply to recallibrate one's body and habitual responses - allowing one to create a deep internal experience of comfort and peace. I work with my clients to create a home practice to best address their presenting problems in a way that is both enjoyable and workable within their regular schedules.
I have personally experienced the Taoist arts and their amazing healing capacity on multiple levels - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. They have the awesome ability to be both immediately useful as well as offer the skills and structure for great mastery on all these levels. They help you develop the ability to be comfortable in your own skin - to be able to be present and relaxed no matter on what level or to what degree challenges come at you.
I am certified to teach Tai Chi, Taoist Breathing, and several Chi Gung systems through Master B.K.Franktzis.
Through most of our lives, we have been taught with a style of learning through mimicry, or being told what is "correct," and encouraged not to question it. The Feldenkrais Method teaches us a more compassionate and scientific process of taking in information and evaluating it based on our own internal sense of comfort and usefulness.
I choose to integrate the Feldenkrais Method into my practice for a number of reasons. It is an amazing resource for relaxation and eleviation of stress; it has a distinct ability to assist one in developing an internal sense of discernment and authority over one's own learning process; and whether we apply this technique to physical, emotional, or intellectual learning, it is by far the most effective - and gentle - style of relating to oneself, learning and shifting behavior, that I have experienced.
I integrate this into therapy with in-session lessons, homework, book and CD recommendations for home earning, and occasional outside referrals for ongoing maintenance and growth. I utilize it as a model to help shift one's mode of relating with oneself and opeing up a more creative and compassionate style of learning through the challenges we're given.
